Pritzker, Bloomberg add at least $2 million to Bottoms’ Georgia campaign effort

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg are directing at least $2 million to support Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms in the final stretch of Georgia’s governor’s race. The late donations come as Republican Rick Jackson’s spending advantage looms over a contest polls show is close.

Two of the Democratic Party’s wealthiest donors are giving Keisha Lance Bottoms’ Georgia gubernatorial bid a late financial boost as she faces Republican Rick Jackson, whose campaign has spent heavily in the race.

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker is putting $1 million toward Bottoms’ leadership fund, which can accept contributions without limits. Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is steering at least $1 million from an $80 million effort to help Democrats toward Bottoms, according to her campaign.

The support arrives in the campaign’s final stretch, with Jackson’s spending advantage a central feature of the contest. Jackson, a health care executive, has drawn on his personal wealth, while Bottoms has relied on campaign fundraising and support from Democratic groups.

The race appears competitive: an Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll released Tuesday put Jackson at 46% and Bottoms at 45%, a result within the poll’s margin of error. Bottoms spoke at a campaign rally at Cobb Convention Center on Oct. 17.

Pritzker, who has been discussed as a possible 2028 presidential candidate, and Bloomberg, a former presidential hopeful, are among the party’s biggest donors. Their contributions underscore how large personal fortunes and outside spending can shape the resources available to candidates in a closely contested state race.
