Piedmont Park’s Light Up the Season adds handmade lantern procession Nov. 22
The free holiday gathering will feature a new lantern parade led by the Seed & Feed Marching Abominable, followed by the annual lighting of the park’s Great Tree, Menorah and Kinara. Activities begin at 3:30 p.m. at Greystone, with the procession starting at 5 p.m.
Piedmont Park Conservancy will add a Holiday Lantern Parade to its annual Light Up the Season celebration on Sunday, Nov. 22, inviting Atlantans to make lanterns and walk together through the park before its seasonal lighting ceremony.
The free event starts at 3:30 p.m. at Greystone with a lantern-making gathering. At 5 p.m., the inaugural parade, led by the Seed & Feed Marching Abominable, will wind through the park and finish in the Meadow. The evening will culminate in the lighting of the Great Tree, Menorah and Kinara.
The Conservancy says the procession is intended to give the community a new way to take part in the annual celebration. Doug Widener, the organization’s president and CEO, said the parade will bring handmade lanterns, music and families together in the park.
The illuminated displays, presented with support from the Speedwell Foundation, are scheduled to remain in the park through Jan. 4. The celebration is free and open to the public; reservations are encouraged for the lantern-making activity.
