A student died and another was injured in a shooting at Atlanta Technical College on Monday morning. Police say an initial investigation indicates a gun accidentally discharged in a classroom before the student who had it was found dead in a bathroom from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
One student died and another was wounded in a shooting at Atlanta Technical College in Atlanta on Monday morning, authorities said.
Atlanta police responded to the campus at about 8:45 a.m. and found a male student dead in a bathroom. Police said the student appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Investigators’ early account is that the student had a gun in a classroom and it accidentally fired, striking another student in the leg. The injured student’s wounds were not life-threatening, the college said. Officials had not released either student’s identity as of Monday afternoon.
The college secured the campus after the shooting. Classes and other operations later resumed.
“Our thoughts are with the students, their families and the entire Atlanta Technical College community during this time,” a college spokesperson said.
